Off the top of my head, I would recommend The Stand by Stephen King to people who liked The Road. The long version, of course. Or On the Beach by Nevil Shute, although it is sad. There's really nothing like The Road, though.

The Road, is influenced by the story found in the Bible. Start in Genesis 1:2, Light being a sign of the covenant, for God did not send his son (John 3:17). Mathew 25:36
